Ann's Kountry Kids
Ann's Kountry Kids begin study of Caribbean
By Ann R. Jackson
Ann's Kountiy Kids Preschool returned to the classroom after a two-week vacation for the holidays.
Upon their return, the students began a mock tour of the Caribbean islands. In their take-off, the children got Into the Island spirit by listening to Caribbean music, learning an Island dance and by tasting fresh coconut, coconut milk and fresh pineapple. The classroom was decorated with leis, island dancers, palm trees and island flowers.
To keep the spirit alive, the students were invited by Mike Fischer, regional manager of Red Lobster Restaurants, to tour the Bloomlngton Red Lobster Restaurant. The children were hosted by Susan Brennin, manager of the restaurant, and JoAnn Fischer, wife of Mike Fischer.
The children viewed a video about the different varieties of seafood and fish caught for use in the restaurant. Each child was then allowed to look at and touch a King Crab leg. Snow Crab leg, small, medium and large shrimps, halibut steak and a live lobster. The lobster was a big hit when the children petted him to sleep and Miss Brennin put him into a head stand.
The tour then proceeded to the kitchen, where everyone had to wash their hands. The kitchen was bustling with cooks peeling shrimp, preparing vegetables, french fries, hush puppies and desserts.
Back in the dining room, the children each received a delicious, complimentary meal consisting of popcorn shrimp, hush puppies, french fries and cherry Seven-Up. The students also received game books, coloring pages and Red Lobster hats. The chaperones also received a complimentary meal.
A special surprise awaited Mrs. Jackson, as the children, other chaperones and the Red Lobster staff surprised her with a birthday cake and a special rendition of "Happy Birthday." Ann's Kountry Kids then presented Miss Brennin and Mrs. Fischer thank-you bouquets for the good time they had.
Parents accompanying the students were Jana Rossier, Mrs. Fischer, Mary Beth Salmon, Debbie Burpo, Debbie Isom, Cindy Hutcheson and Meagan Weaver's grandfather.
