Indiana Post Offices-1875

By 1875 Indiana had 1,424 post offices. Listed below are the post offices in existence in 1875. You will find two lists; one alphabetical by city, town, village; the other alphabetical by county. The names of post offices and counties have been entered as they appeared in the original. You will note some variation in spelling, in some cases, from what is in use today.

The list originally appeared in An Illustrated History of the State of Indiana: Being a Full and Authentic Civil and Political History of the State from its First Exploration down to 1875. Including an Account of the Commercial, Agricultural, and Education Growth of Indiana. With Historical and Descriptive Sketches of the Cities, Towns and Villages, Embracing Interesting Narratives of Pioneer Life, Together with Biographical Sketches and Portraits of the Prominent Men of the Past and Present, and a History of each County Separately. By De Witt C. Goodrich, and Prof. Charles R. Tuttle, Author of the "Border Wars of Two Centuries", "Illustrated History of the State of Michigan", etc., etc. Sold only by subscription. Indianapolis: Richard S. Peale & Co., Publishers. 1875. [The following information was taken from Copy No. 5; now a part of my collection. smc.]
